On Thursday, September 27th, join us for an evening of storytelling about health and the criminal justice system. This event, which includes stories from doctors, a lawyer, social workers, and formerly incarcerated people, as well as live music from The Endorphins, is being produced in partnership with UCSF's Citywide Case Management Program. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to their organization.

Michele has served as the Chief Physician and Hospice Medical Director at California Medical Facility in the California Department of Corrections since 2007. She and her team support incarcerated men and their families in pursuing compassionate release and, when this is not possible, provide a setting that allows for meaningful visits, achievement of end of life goals, and dying with dignity.
Catherine has been practicing family medicine for 25 years. Like all primary care docs, she revels in the privilege of hearing peoples stories. She writes every day, although only her muses have seen her prolific textkus (cell phone photo, haiku written, whoosh texted). She has raised kids and raised h*ll for her patients. To her surprise, she was honored with the CAFP ‘Hero of Family Medicine’ in 2013 and is still trying to earn it.
Jenny is a former public defender and a founder of San Francisco’s Behavioral Health Court. For most of her career, she represented clients suffering from mental illness and facing serious criminal charges. She now works as an independent consultant and policy advisor and is a lecturer at Berkeley Law.
Erika is an internist in San Francisco. She came to the Bay Area almost 25 years ago as a newly graduated English major with a volunteer job at a community clinic. She eventually found her way to a career in medicine where she now works with hospitalized veterans, teaches students and residents, and leads projects to improve quality of care. Â
Yasi is a clinical social work supervisor at UCSF/Citywide Forensic Case Management. She graduated with a Master of Science in Counseling from San Francisco State University in 2005 and a BA in History and Anthropology from the University of Iowa in 1988. She is a proud immigrant and proud American, and has the best job in the world.Â
Henry has over 30 years of experience in the criminal justice system, and is currently a patient at the re-entry mobile clinic in San Jose. He is also a talented poet, having written over 80 poems while in prison, none of which he ever wrote down, and many of which he has performed from memory in front of live audiences.Â
As a native San Franciscan, Alex takes pride in working with individuals with the highest needs in the mental health and criminal justice systems.  In 2012 he co-founded the Probation Team at Citywide/UCSF Psychiatry, an intensive case management agency for seriously mentally ill offenders on probation.  His passion to create a community and voice for those who have been isolated and overlooked by society is driven by his core belief that everyone has the ability to make integral changes, given love and unconditional support.
Andrew, an SF native, produces music across genres for live shows, theatre, comedy, and film festivals. He has an MAT in Education and taught music in the New York City Department of Education. Ondas Novas, an original album, includes Zack Pitt-Smith on winds.
